I built Praxis Performance as the space I needed years ago didn't exist. "Praxis" means turning theory into practice. Is the realization that the best science in the world is useless if it doesn't fit the human in front of you.
I know what it feels like to be the person standing outside the gym, afraid to go in. I am here to tell you that you belong here. We will meet you where you are, we will adjust the path to fit you, and we will walk it together.
We often talk about weight as a number, but anyone who has carried it knows it’s actually a feeling. For years, carrying over 275 pounds of excess weight didn't just make me heavy; it made me silent. I felt visible because of my size, yet completely invisible as a human being.
When I finally decided to save my own life, I went looking for a place to belong. I went from gym to gym, hoping to find a sanctuary. Instead, I found judgment. I walked into spaces full of mirrors and egos, and I felt like an intruder in a club I wasn’t qualified to join. I was looking for help, but I only found isolation.
I realized that if I was going to survive this, I couldn't rely on the commercial fitness world. I needed to rely on science.
I stopped looking for a gym and started with a doctor. I built a medical support team to monitor my vitals and blood work, treating my obesity not as a character flaw, but as a physiological condition that required a professional strategy. That medical supervision gave me the safety to start—but I still didn't know how to move.
Then, I found him. I found a coach who didn't look at me and see a limitation; he saw potential.
He was the first person to show me the power of an adjustment. When I couldn't perform a movement, he didn't yell or shame me. He simply changed the angle. He modified the range of motion. He met me exactly where I was that day, not where I "should" be.
With every adjustment, I felt a spark. A movement that looked impossible became possible. Pain was replaced by progress. For the first time, I wasn't fighting my body; I was working with it. Each small modification led to a level of success I never thought I’d touch.
That experience lit a fire in me that I couldn't put out. I didn't just want to be fit; I needed to understand the mechanics of the magic that had just happened to me. I wanted to know why the adjustments worked.
I dedicated myself to the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) to bridge the gap between the doctor’s office and the gym floor:
Certified Personal Trainer (CPT): To understand the science of movement.
Nutritional Coach: To learn how to fuel the body for healing.
Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES): To master the very adjustments that saved me—learning to fix imbalances and navigate around pain.
